My mission is to be a business owner, developing and managing my own brand with determination, organization, and teamwork.

Dream Internship

Dream Internship

My dream internship would be in the area of product development for one of my favorite brands, Kith. It is my dream to design, plan, and develop products for my own brand one day. Therefore, I am hoping to learn a lot about this career choice from Kith, which I think of as a successful brand. I would love to have a look into Kith’s product development team and learn all about their development process and strategies. In addition to product development, Kith also works with retail. Although I am more focused on development, I am open and hope to learn a significant amount about what goes into Kith’s day to day workforce with both retail and development. With all the knowledge and information that I will get out of this internship, I hope to be navigated in the correct direction to ultimately become a business owner of my own brand.

Kith was established in 2011 and focuses on two different aspects. One is a lifestyle brand for men, women, and kids. The other is a progressive retail establishment where they buy and sell other brands products. They offer their own label for sale as well as other brands’ apparel and footwear. Kith was founded by Ronnie Fieg who was involved in the footwear industry for over twenty years. He started as a stock boy at New York based franchise David Z and went on from floor salesman to assistant manager all the way to head buyer. Kith collaborates with brands that relate to Fieg and his childhood which forms a strong connection for him with his brand. Likewise, I would want to own a brand that correlates with me and one which I feel a strong connection to.

Today Kith has 12 locations including 7 flagship stores and three shop in shops at Bergdorf Goodman, Hirshleifers, and Selfridges. They are based in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn in the 25 Kent building. This includes the production, design, front office, and any other supporting functions. They were originally New York City based in SoHo but decided to move to expand their ideas and brand. Ronnie Fieg stated, “Creating a maker space in Williamsburg embodies the ideals we hold as a brand that includes creating inclusive and innovative experiences in new exciting surroundings” (Garner, 1).

What’s so unique about Kith is that this brand has stayed in style and is currently still attracting attention whether it’s in store, online, or even on social media. Most streetwear brands do not stay current for as long as Kith has and most of them started to decline. Kith is now featured in many magazines and runways including Vogue Runway and is continuing to grow every day. This brand is constantly taking the customer into consideration and creating what they may want. “But it’s important for me to take the customers from when I first opened when I was 28 on this journey. I think it’s important to cover the full spectrum of the person who’s entering the brand for the first time” (Garcia-Furtado, 1). In addition to that, the team at Kith is trying to bring in more mature looks and incorporate it into the business with original looks.

The reason I am choosing Kith as the company I want to intern for and learn about product development from is because of the brands strong connection to its owner. I want to learn from someone who is passionate about what they do so I can have the same feelings when I enter the working environment every day. I want to be motivated to do well which I believe can lead anyone to success. When entering any of the kith stores one is automatically greeted and offered help by multiple salesmen. The shopping experience is beyond amazing at any of Kith’s locations. From this, I can automatically tell that Kith takes the time to properly train their managers and employees to deliver more than money can buy to the customer. I believe I can learn so much from kith as a brand therefore my dream internship is to be a part of the product development team at Kith.

Dear Emily Sachs:

I would like to apply for the product development internship position at Kith. Over the past year, I have interned as an assistant interior designer, helping my boss design, style and develop ideas for over twenty clients’ homes. I am confident that my creativity and development skills for interior design will stand out in the product development area and make me a perfect match for the position.

My previous job experience makes me the perfect fit for this job as I am familiar with responsibilities for delivery for products, working in teams to accomplish projects, designing, marketing factors, and meeting certain expectations or standards of both the company and the customer. These experiences come from my previous jobs related to development and fashion as an interior design assistant for Stacy Ayash Design and a model for MeMe Apparel.

Kith has apparel lines for men, women, and children as well as working with retail with other brands. Kith often offers the customer more than what they pay for with great experience and high-quality apparel. With my experience, I can fit into the Kith team to offer customers even more than what they are already receiving at Kith. I am ready to produce brand new ideas, designs, and styles that will take Kith to the next level and achieve their goals of relating to the customer with their brand.

I would love to meet for an interview for this position. I hope to hear from you and will be in contact with your team in a week if I do not hear back. I appreciate the time spent reading my cover letter. Kith has been very successful in the past and I hope to soon be a part of furthering their success.

Sincerely,

Joyce Braca
